About QR This!

A free, in-browser QR code generator with no signups, no watermarks, and no tracking — made for the web by one person.

Why this exists

Most free QR code generators on the web are not actually free. You arrive looking for a quick image you can drop on a flyer, and you find a paywall, a 14-day trial, a watermark you'll need to pay to remove, or a forced signup before you can even click Download.

QR This! exists because that experience is silly. The QR code specification is royalty-free. Generating one is a few milliseconds of math. There is no good reason to charge people for it, and there's certainly no reason to slap a tracking SDK on every page someone visits looking for one.

So this site does the simplest possible thing: paste a URL, customize the look, click Generate, click Download. Your URL never leaves your browser; the QR code is rendered locally on your device. The site has no database, no accounts, and collects nothing about what you make.

About the author

QR This! is built and maintained by Tim Morris, an independent web developer who builds small, fast utilities and writes about practical web tooling.

QR This! grew out of a frustration with QR generators that demanded signups, watermarked outputs, or buried the download button behind a paywall. The first version went live in early 2026; the project is open to contributions and ideas.

[Editor's note: With over 20 years of experience in technology, I've witnessed and contributed to the incredible evolution of web development - from the early days of HTML to today's sophisticated full-stack applications. My expertise spans the entire development spectrum, from crafting intuitive user interfaces to architecting robust backend systems. I believe in building not just functional software, but solutions that truly make a difference in people's lives.]

What QR This! is, technically

QR This! is a static web application built with Next.js, React, and Tailwind CSS. The QR code generation happens entirely in your browser using qr-code-styling, an open-source JavaScript library — no server-side processing, no API calls.

The site has a simple goal: be the fastest, cleanest, most respectful free QR code generator on the web. If you find a bug or have a suggestion, drop a note.
